What to do if your check engine light comes on?

Tech Tip Tuesday!

What to do if your check engine light comes on:

Ask yourself these questions to determine if it is safe to drive your vehicle with the light on.

Did you recently pump gas?

If so, check your gas cap to ensure it is tight. As a loose cap can cause the light to come on. However, the light may not reset immediately.

Did the vehicle jolt or vibrate (misfire)?

If the vehicle has other drivability issues along with the light, call for a tow truck and schedule a shop repair visit.

Is the light flashing or on steadily?

A flashing light can indicate a more serious problem that can cause internal engine damage, therefore, you should stop, turn off the vehicle and call for a tow.
